Mr. Richard Scott was the first of two guest speakers.
Richard is a past president of VFW Post 175 of Doylestown. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He spoke about the creation of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial in Doylestown, which he was a driving force behind getting designed and erected in May 2013.
This memorial honors the memory of 22 Bucks County soldiers (male and female) who have died since September 11th, 2001.
Richard presented a slide show with photos of these 22 soldiers and the Memorial in their honor.
The Memorial is located at the corner of Main and Court Streets in Doylestown, behind the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Richard then introduced Mr. Dan Fraley, Director of the Bucks County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
In early 1980, Dan, United States Marine Veteran from Southampton, PA, who served in Vietnam during the war, initiated a campaign to place a Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Bucks County to honor military service members who died or went Missing in Action.
The Bucks County Vietnam Memorial was dedicated on June 16th, 1984.
Dan spoke briefly on the building of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to honor the 136 Bucks County soldiers who died in the war.
Margaret Gale Thornton Chapter DAR, Regent, Michelle Lewicki, presented both speakers with DAR Certificates of Recognition for their efforts on behalf of Vietnam Veterans.
Washington Crossing Chapter, SAR, President, Bill Hampton joined Michelle Lewicki to recognize all Veterans present including Karyn Norton, Bob Reiser and John Logrando.
Bill presented the SAR Service to Veterans Medal to Washington Crossing SAR Chapter Member Tim Ghebeles.
As a member of Bugles Across America, Tim has performed at hundreds of memorial services, grave markings, and other events which honor Veterans.
As part of the evening’s festivities, Margaret Gale Thornton Chapter – First Vice-Regent, Cheryl Lewicki, and Chaplain, Joan Logrando, initiated three new members; Catherine Dubyk, Cara Dubyk Meskar, and Kerry Dubyk Stickel.
The Margaret Gale Thornton Chapter, located in Pipersville, was chartered in December 2016.
