Keeping Lake Afton healthy and beautiful

Friends of Lake Afton (FOLA) received a $15,000 contribution this past November from AT&T, to help FOLA meet their mission to restore, improve, protect and maintain Lake Afton and the public areas surrounding the lake for all to enjoy.

FOLA celebrated AT&T’s support during a special event on November 29th at the Old Library by Lake Afton.

Members of FOLA’s Board of Directors were joined by area politicians to celebrate the occasion, including State Rep. Perry Warren, Bucks County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia, PA State Senator Steve Santarsiero, Yardley Borough Manager Paula Johnson, Yardley Councilwomen Sandi Brady and Caroline Thompson, and Yardley Borough Police Chief Kelly.

Mike Schweder, AT&T’s Mid-Atlantic president, presented the donation. Schweder was joined by fellow AT&T representatives Dan Langan, Joe Divis, and David Kerr. FOLA board members Michelle Sharer, Nick Primola, Marna Matthews, Frank Lyons and Patty Lyons represented FOLA to receive the donation.

Mike Schweder stated, “Lake Afton is a local landmark that has been a focal point of the community since the 1700’s. Our support will help ensure this community jewel can be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come.”

The contribution will be used to continue the costly algae management that ensures the lake remains healthy for its inhabitants as well as general landscaping and inlet and outlet maintenance.

This will also help FOLA increase the fundraising activities they have reintroduced after decades of absence, such as boat rides in the spring and on Yardley’s Harvest Day.

Michelle Sharer, President of FOLA, stated, “This wonderfully generous donation will essentially allow FOLA to properly take care of all of Lake Afton’s routine care and maintenance in 2019. The entire FOLA board is overwhelmingly grateful that Mike Schweder, after moving to Yardley Borough with his wife, Annette, reached out to FOLA with a plan to help ensure that FOLA can successfully take care of Yardley’s town jewel.”
