    Pickering Manor

Making a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors

For over 55 years, Pickering Manor has made a meaningful difference in the lives of senior citizens.

Nestled in the heart of Newtown (226 N. Lincoln Avenue), Pickering Manor is 5 Star Nursing, Rehabilitation, Personal Care and Independent Living Life Plan Community.

Caring, homelike, and family-oriented are a few words used to describe this special and unique community.

A non-profit, owned and operated by the Community Welfare Council of Newtown, it opened in 1963 thanks to the generosity of Henry Russell Pickering who bequeathed his stately Victorian home – the centerpiece of Pickering Manor – and a sum of money for the creation of a retirement center to serve older citizens.

Building on its legacy, Pickering Manor broke ground on July 12th, 2018 on an expansion and renovation project.

Expanding their footprint with a new two-story building and a new front entrance with a porte-cochere, Pickering will only grow by 14-beds staying true to themselves, their mission, and success in holding and maintaining that small family kind of feeling.

The expansion includes the addition of a dedicated short-term rehabilitation unit with private rooms, a brand-new rehabilitation gym, and a dedicated memory care unit.

The current skilled unit will be updated with state-of-the-art renovations and dedicated to long-term care and hospice.

Personal Care residents will also have a new living space and gym.

In addition, three independent living cottages will be expanded from one to two-bedroom units.

Pickering Manor offers its community opportunities to enjoy vibrant and comfortable lifestyles with a wide range of community activities and services, designed to enable residents to live life to the fullest.

They continue to maintain a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – the highest score possible, and are once again named Best Nursing Home by U.S. News and World Report.

The quality of service and the commitment to caring and compassionate care at Pickering has been called unparalleled.

At Pickering Manor residents and their families become part of the Pickering family. Staff take pride in what they do and live by their motto, quality care by people who care.

Pickering Manor believes that Mr. Pickering would be very proud to know that they continue to carry out his vision.

Pickering holds several fundraising events including their annual Car Raffle and Designer Bag Bingo event – tickets for both now available.
