Love working with your hands and actually seeing the product of your labor at the end of the day?

Skilled trades apprenticeships provide excellent pay, health benefits, and retirement packages, with little to no cost to the apprentice.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 269 Joint Apprentice and Training Committee (IBEW Local 269 JATC), is a five-year, Department of Labor registered, electrical apprenticeship program.

They offer state-of-the-art training using the latest in blended learning techniques, allowing for ample hands-on training to augment classroom sessions.

They accept application each year beginning January 1st and ending March 31st. The application is no-cost and may be accessed here: https://goo.gl/P1BY7A. Those without computer access may apply at the JATC on February 7th or March 7th from 8:00am to noon, and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be resident in Local 269’s jurisdictional area, see map here: https://goo.gl/UMc4qy;
  2. Applicants may be 17 at the time of application, but must be 18 by July 1st of the year;
  3. Possess a valid driver’s license;
  4. Have a High School Diploma or equivalent at the time of interview;
  5. Have a passing grade in High School algebra, or equivalent.

Applicants have 30 days to provide all necessary documentation.

Applicants that successfully complete the application process will be scheduled for a standardized aptitude test.

Applicants that receive a passing score will be scheduled for interview, typically the third week in June.

Applicants that are accepted into the program are placed by them with a participating electrical contractor for a minimum of 40 hrs./week employment. Apprentices receive yearly wage increases upon successful completion of each school year’s curriculum.

Education doesn’t end with graduation from the apprenticeship program, as they offer many courses to expand your skills, including Medium Voltage Cable Splicing, Crane Operator, Telehandler Operator, and Welding.
