The Peace Center and the Bucks County Board of Commissioners are pleased to announce the launch of “One Book, One Bucks”, an initiative encouraging neighbors, community groups, libraries and book stores to convene book discussions that lead to greater understanding, compassion, and empathy for marginalized groups. This idea has come about in response to a growing tide of hate speech and incidents in the local community, especially in our schools.
The kick-off book was “Rising Out of Hatred: The Awakening of a Former White Nationalist”, by Pulitzer Prize winning reporter, Eli Saslow which tells the personal saga of one man who eventually disavowed everything he was taught to believe. A discussion was held on Thursday, January 17th at The Peace Center (102 West Maple Ave., Langhorne).
Different titles will be selected throughout the year, including:
- Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
- The New Jim Crowe, by Michelle Alexander
- Homegoing, by Yaa Gyasi
- The Warmth of Other Suns, by Isabel Wilkerson
- Left to Tell, by Immaculate Iibagiza
- Soldiers of Peace, by Paul K. Chappell
