Southampton Free Library will be offering a weekly coding club for ages 10 and up in January.
Did you ever want to learn how to create your own website? How about creating an app or a video game? Now’s your chance at the Southampton Free Library during January and February! The library will be offering a coding club on Tuesdays from 3:30 PM to 5:00pm running from January 8th to February 12th.
The Prenda Coding Club will allow participants to learn how to code websites, apps, games, and more through self-paced, fun projects. The club is recommended for 4th grade and up. Participants must be able to work without adult assistance on projects. The library invites you to bring your own laptop if you wish to work independently. Laptops will be provided for shared use. This is a walk-in program. The library will host a showcase in the spring where you can show your family and friends what you have created.
“Coding is a useful skill to have and we wanted to offer it as a fun, stress-free club for youth to getthem excited about computer programming,” says Heather Soltroff, Youth Services Librarian.
By offering this Coding Club, the Southampton Free Library hopes to expand access to new and different formats and provide the necessary tools to learn new skills. It seeks to be a community educational center that is more than just books.
