Its mission is to promote and enhance knowledge and appreciation of French language and culture and to encourage interaction among French people, speakers of French, and all those with an interest in the French way of life.
The Alliance meets twice monthly for a 90-minute “table ronde” French conversation session. Conversation topics are announced in advance so that members may prepare their comments. Interested parties may attend one of these sessions free of charge to see how well the “table ronde” meets their needs and interests.
In addition to the regular meetings, the Alliance offers a variety of special presentations of interest to francophiles, screenings of French films and social gatherings for its members and occasionally, for the community at large.
Annual member events include the Anniversary Dinner, fête du 14 juillet Bastille Day celebration, Fall “rentrée” cocktail reception and December holiday reception.
2018 events open to the public include a full-day French immersion session, “Les Enfants du Paradis” film showing at the Community Theater and the high school student essay competition.
All Bucks County public, private and home-schooled fourth and AP-level French students are encouraged to submit an essay on the topic of “A French-speaking country I would like to visit – other than France.”
The essay application and instructions may be found on the Alliance website: https://www.afdoylestown.org/student-essay-competition.
