Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve Offers Summer Internship Opportunities to Area Students

Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, 1635 River Road, New Hope, is now accepting applications to fill up to three paid summer internships to qualified applicants interested in education and native plant horticulture in public gardens. The 134-acre Preserve features nearly 800 species of native plants along 2.5 miles of trails that traverse woods, meadow, pond and stream. Internship categories are as follows:

Programs & Collection Interns work closely with the Education Coordinator and other Preserve staff and receives in-depth training in:

  • Public education and interpretation
  • Native plant propagation
  • Land management
  • Trail maintenance

The Native Plant Horticultural Intern works closely with the Preserve’s Nursery and Curatorial staff and receives in-depth training in:

  • Collection of native plant seeds of local ecotypes
  • Native plant propagation
  • Planting newly acquired species on the grounds
  • Display garden maintenance
  • Public education and interpretation

Field trips to other botanical gardens, native plant nurseries and natural areas are offered to round out interns’ understanding of plants and public gardens. Interns also attend educational programs at the Preserve and complete an individual research or work project.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in school, have completed at least 2 years of college, or the equivalent, with background and a strong interest in botany, horticulture and/or related environmental studies. Applicants should be capable of rigorous outdoor work including lifting, digging, and sustained walking.
