    Keep the kids occupied this summer with these fun activities

    School’s out – every parent’s worst nightmare once summer rolls around. Have no fear – there are summer events in Bucks County aimed at keeping your kids occupied during the hot weather months.

    Join storytellers at Fonthill Castle, located at 84 S. Pine Street in Doylestown, for outdoor story hour outside the castle. Bring a blanket and lunch on Wednesday, August 9th from 12:30- 1:30 pm and listen to some exciting tales with a castle backdrop.

    At Mercer Museum, also at 84 S. Pine Street, is “Stories Under the Trees with Darcy Fair” on Tuesdays, July 18th and August 22nd, from 12:30 until 1:30pm.

    Sponsored in part by the Friends of Bucks County Historical Society, families can enjoy oral tales, readings, music, activities, and touchable artifacts among other attractions.

    Free summer movies showing and plays are offered for kids at Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State Street in Newtown Borough, beginning on Wednesday, July 5th, free movies will be screened Wednesday mornings at 10:00am.

    The theme is “Free Firsts,” featuring the first movie in a series of favorites.

    Listed below are the dates and movie options:

    • July 5th – “How to Train Your Dragon”;
    • July 12th – “Madagascar”;
    • July 26th – “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”;
    • August 2nd – “Shrek”;
    • August 9th – “The LEGO Movie”;
    • August 16th – “Kung Fu Panda”.

    To go along with the Thompson Performing Arts Series mentioned in the “Sounds of Summer 2017,” free outdoor movies will also be offered at the Covenant Bank Amphitheater in Central Park, 425 Wells Road, Doylestown.

    Friday, July 7th is a screening of the movie “Sing” at sunset. The next free screening will be Friday, September 15th, featuring “Pete’s Dragon.”
