Michael Pultro, a Financial Consultant and founder of Pultro Financial Management, began his career in a very different industry. He graduated from the University of the Arts in 1979 with a double major in music performance and music education. He spent the next 10 years performing in Atlantic City, NJ, with such legends as Sammy Davis Jr., Jerry Lewis and Aretha Franklin, just to name a few.

He also taught music privately and at several schools, developing a passion for education. Although a struggling artist, Michael managed to put away enough money to invest with a large nationwide institutional financial firm.

With little knowledge of the financial industry, Michael learned the hard way how easy it was to be taken advantage of. This expensive lesson led Michael down a completely different career path. “I began educating myself about financial planning, so I could educate others, preventing them from making the same costly mistake I did,” explains Michael.

At Pultro Financial Management, Michael has applied his love of teaching to educating clients about their finances. He makes a point of using words they understand, as opposed to using confusing industry terms.

“I take an educational approach, versus a sales approach with my clients,” describes Michael.

He primarily works with retired clients or pre-retired clients concerned that they will outlive their retirement money.

“My goal is that when you leave my office, you’ll feel more informed, empowered and confident about making financial decisions, and that you’ll see the path and direction you need to take to help guide you towards your financial goals,” says Michael.

He helps his clients determine the amount of money they will need to live a financially prepared retirement. He then develops an individualized plan for each client on how to plan for that amount of money.

Michael explains that his work has significantly changed over time because 20 years ago, people didn’t have the TV financial news channels or stock market information at their fingertips on the Internet. According to Michael, this information can often be deceptive and misleading.

Therefore, today Michael spends a lot of time setting the record straight. He talks with his clients about how to focus on their goals and not on the news outlets.

To further illustrate how education is key to his clients, Michael describes a married couple who recently came to see him solely because they were children of one of his elderly clients. It was immediately obvious to Michael that the woman was there reluctantly, appearing as if she was being forced to go to a dentist.

Michael often encounters clients who may be nervous about working with a financial professional. However, Michael works diligently to create a relationship built on trust and understanding that helps the client become more comfortable and confident about the financial planning process.

“I don’t limit the amount of time I spend with each client, and all consultations are free,” says Michael. “There is no pressure to become a client, so you have nothing to lose by coming in for a meeting. At the very least, you’ll leave receiving a better understanding of your finances and the financial options from which you can select.”
