Sousa is coming to town!

The halls of the Yardley Community Centre will soon be vibrating with the sounds of the marches of John Philip Sousa.

For the 14th straight year the Blawenburg Band will be performing on July 4th. The 55-piece band has been in existence for 125 years. It is under the direction of Dr. Jerry Rife, who also heads the music department at Rider College.

The band has long specialized in the music of Sousa, having once produced a program for the Public Broadcasting System entitled “If You Knew Sousa.”

While the band will be performing a number of Sousa marches Dr. Rife loves to interject other memorable pieces of the last 50 years.  His lively patter detailing the origins of the songs and his predilection for audience involvement have made for a lively afternoon of music.

A visit by Uncle Sam is always a possibility. An American flag will be handed out to each attendee.

The performances are always sold out, so that an early purchase of tickets is recommended.

When possible tickets are made available at the door. Tickets are $15, as they have been since the beginning of the event.

Tickets are available at Mil-Lees, Bucks Ship & Print and Fun Matters, all in Yardley, or by calling 215-493-0258.
