Stuffed bears offer comfort to pediatric patients during Emergency Department visits
Each year, Teva Pharmaceuticals participates in various philanthropic activities throughout the holiday season. For the past two years, Teva has purchased a unique “Teddy Bear Tree”, provided by Parker Interior Plantscape Inc. This tree sits in the lobby at Teva’s North Wales, Pennsylvania site, as a symbol of just one of the many gift giving opportunities that Teva takes advantage of for the holidays.
Before the holidays, Teva removes the bears from the tree and donates them to organizations in the local community. For the second year in a row, Teva has donated bears to the Doylestown Hospital Emergency Department, where these bears provide comfort to pediatric patients during their visit.
Doylestown Hospital opened its new Emergency Department in April 2010. It features 39 private treatment areas, two critical care suites and a designated pediatric/minor acute care area. About 8,000 pediatric patients are seen in the ER each year.“The stuffed bears help ease the fears of our young patients at a time that can be quite scary for them,” says Doylestown Hospital’s Al Galdo, RN. “They always bring smiles to the children’s faces.”
“We are so grateful to have the opportunity to provide comfort to children while they are in the emergency room. The holidays are a difficult time for those in the hospital and we hope that these bears will help brighten the lives of each of the patients who receive them,” said Denise Bradley, vice president, corporate communications.
These bears are just one of the many philanthropic initiatives that Teva participates in throughout the year. To name a few, Teva also works with Philabundance, Student’s Run Philly Style, Twilight Wish Foundation, ConKerr Cancer, Miracle League of Northampton Township, Tabor House and has a community partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Teva as a company is committed to providing access to quality healthcare around the world, but also believes it is important to demonstrate corporate responsibility in its local communities. For more information about Teva Pharmaceuticals, visit www.tevapharm-na.com.
