Do you ever wonder about the mushrooms you come across locally? Are they poisonous? What value do they provide to us? To our environment? Which mushrooms you can eat?
Join Heritage Conservancy and Luke Smithson, Head Chef at Jamie Hollander Catering & Events, on a hike to identify wild mushrooms. Luke will lead us through Veterans Park– Heritage Conservancy helped preserve a recent addition to the park with an easement on the property, which is owned by Richland Township. Luke will answer the questions you have always had about the mushrooms we find along the way. This opportunity is exclusively available to supporters of Heritage Conservancy (members at the $50 level and above).
Get to know Luke: Luke is an amateur field mycologist and community scientist with over 25 years of collecting and identifying mushrooms. He is a past president and the current Education Chair of the New Jersey Mycological Association and the FunDiS (Fungal Diversity Survey) project leader for the Philadelphia Mycology Club. His fungal passions lay in taxonomy and identifying lesser-known (and occasionally unknown!) mushroom species, as well as foraging for delicious edible mushrooms.
Guests should arrive between 9:45 – 9:50 AM
The walk will begin at 10:00 AM
Meeting location: Veteran’s Park, at 145 E Pumping Station Rd, Quakertown, PA 18951. We will meet in the upper lot, the smaller lot farthest from E Pumping Station Rd.
Cost: $15 per person (Registration is exclusive to annual supporters at or above the $50 level)
Recommended for ages 12 and up (child must be accompanied by an adult).
